Where Is the Tailgate?   

The tailgate is in the parking lot across from Scholz Garten at 17th St. & San Jacinto Blvd in downtown Austin.  See Location/Maps page for details. 

 

What Time Should I Arrive?   

Arrive as early as possible! Texas football games are the most attended events in Austin.  Traffic and parking can be a mess!  The tailgate starts at 11:00am.  We expect traffic to start getting bad by noon.

 

Where Do I Park?    

Parking in the tailgate lot is not available.  You will need to park on the street in a metered spot, but to get one close, you'll need to arrive super-early!  Your best bet is to park in a public parking garage or the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum's underground parking garage.  Arrive early! Garages fill up on UT game days. Tip: Carpool, take a cab or ride-share. Check here for parking maps.

 

What Should I Bring?   

Although most items are provided or available to you upon entry, some things to keep in mind are: Any special food or drink that you want or money for tipping, a tailgate/camping chair if you want to sit, sunscreen, comfortable clothes and shoes, a poncho or umbrella in case it rains, a camera, a designated driver!  Reminder: The Stadium has a clear bag policy; only small, clear bags are allowed in if you're going to the game.  

 

Is Food and Drink Included?   

Yes! Food and drink (non-alcoholic) is included with your tailgate ticket.   You are always welcome to bring your own food and drinks, too.  If you want alcoholic beverages, you can get drink tickets at the event or get more value by pre-purchasing online.

 

What are Wristbands For?   

You will receive a wristband at the tailgate when you present your tailgate ticket at the tailgate check-in table.  You must have a wristband to attend the tailgate and only ticketed patrons will receive a wristband.  If you pre-purchased drink tickets, you will receive physical tickets when you check-in to redeem at the bar.  You can also purchase drink tickets onsite.

 

How Do I Get Drink Tickets?    

You can pre-purchase drink tickets online or get them at the tailgate.  Pre-purchase your drink tickets online: 3 for $10.00 -or- at the event: 2 for $10.00.  Both prices are subject to tax.  Cash purchases onsite get a discount equal to the sales tax, but pre-purchasing is a better value.

What Happens If It Rains?   

We will tailgate rain or shine! The area will be covered. If severe weather is in the forecast, a decision will be made and everyone will be notified.   

 

Can I Bring My Dog?   

It is not recommended. It's very crowded, usually extremely hot and we tailgate on asphalt. There is not a grass patch suitable for them to play or relieve themselves on.  If you do choose to bring them out, they are required by law to be on a leash and not tied to anything. Please leash them and accompany them at all times. If it becomes a problem, you may be kindly asked to leave.

What Is There To Do?   

There will be a DJ onsite, tailgate games, 104.9 The Horn's Texas "Tailgarten" going on at Scholz Garten.  You can meander around the Bob Bullock Texas History Museum or UT Campus.  

 

Where Do I Use the Restroom?   

We will have portable toilets onsite for use (paper and hand sanitizer included!) There are other portable toilets around as well as some indoor restrooms within walking distance.

Will Anyone Watch My Stuff While I'm at the Game?   

Yes & No. No one is designated to watch your items and there's no place to secure them; BUT,  the Horn-Ball Texas Tailgaters do offer a Bag Check service for $20 per item.  You may secure that service through them onsite.  Your item will be locked up and held for pickup after the game.

What Time Does the Tailgate End?

The tailgate technically ends at the kickoff of the Texas game.

Can I Stay and Watch the Texas Football Game On TV?   

At this time, we don't plan on having a television at the tailgate, however, the Horn-Ball Texas Tailgaters will watch the UT game on their TV's.  You are welcome to stay and watch it with them.
